Moncks Corner-based Home Telecom has good news for the Charleston Peninsula. Home Telecom is expanding their gigabit-capable fiber network with GigUP Charleston. The expansion of Home Telecom’s fiber network onto the peninsula will be done in phases throughout 2017. Expansion will begin in the tech corridor of Morrison Drive and East Bay Street; then continue along Calhoun Street to the WestEdge development.
Improved infrastructure is necessary to drive economic development. Fast internet allows for advancements like remote diagnostic medical services, uploading creative content, and smart appliances that transmit information to remote locations. “The most exciting part of a fiber network is not what it is, but what it enables,” says William S. Helmly, Home Telecom President and COO.
Two years ago, Home Telecom was the first company in South Carolina to provide internet speeds 60 times faster than the national average, a feat accomplished through a partnership with Summerville community, Nexton, to install a fiber network in the new development. Home Telecom was chosen because of the ease of doing business with the company. In fact, 94 percent of customers agree Home Telecom is easy to do business with.
As a company with more than 100 years of experience, Home Telecom excels in customer service.
“Our employees live, work and play in the same places as our customers,” says Helmly. “Local employee involvement plays a role in our customer service ratings being consistently higher than national averages for our industry.”
Complex planning is involved in expanding infrastructure on the peninsula and understanding interest is important.
